HISTORY FOR ALL THE SENSES.
Gettysburg Cyclorama Painting And New Feature Film:
A New Birth of Freedom.

In 1884, painter Paul Philippoteaux took brush to canvas to create an experience of gigantic proportion. On a 377-foot painting in the round, he re-created Pickett’s Charge, the peak of fighting at the Battle of Gettysburg. When it was first displayed, the Gettysburg Cyclorama painting was so emotionally stirring that grown men openly wept. This was state-of-the-art entertainment for its time, and today, it is being returned to its original glory.

On September 26, 2008, the newly conserved Gettysburg Cyclorama painting, complete with its three-dimensional diorama, will be officially open to the public at the new Museum and Visitor Center, in a gallery solely dedicated to its display. The new Gettysburg Cyclorama painting experience includes the re-creation of the skyline, the canopy and the three-dimensional diorama that have been missing from the exhibit for more than 40 years.

Visitors can also surround themselves in the Gettysburg experience by watching A New Birth of Freedom, the new feature film that will be shown in the Museum and Visitor Center’s two main theaters. This 22-minute film immerses the audience in the dramatic sights and sounds of history, telling the story of the Battle of Gettysburg and its important role in our nation's history.

View this explosive production, and you’ll see this historic site in an entirely new light.

The new film is expected to premiere on April 14, 2008. Timed tickets to the film are $8 for adults and $6.50 for children ages 6-12.
